The clock does not start at touchdown. Immigration, the walk from the gate and the baggage belt sit between you and the arrivals hall, and after a long-haul flight they can easily account for an hour and a half. We plan around when you actually appear.

Cases into the boot once, and they stay there until the porters take them at the quayside. From here it is essentially one road south-west.

The quiet middle of the drive. Embarkation-day journeys usually run outside the worst of the peaks, which is one of the few things about this day that works in your favour.

Through the dock gates to the right one of the five, dropped at the terminal entrance where the porters take the luggage. On a busy turnaround day the traffic inside the port is its own problem, and knowing it is most of the job.

Worth knowing on this journey
- Send the flight number, not just the landing time. We follow the arrival, so a delay moves the pickup rather than losing you the car.
- Tell us the ship. That is what tells us which of the five terminals you need, and they are a long way apart.
- Tell us your boarding or check-in window. The whole journey is planned backwards from it, not forwards from the landing.
- If your flight lands the day before you sail, say so — a hotel-to-terminal run the next morning is a different and much cheaper journey.

How much room to leave
Cruise lines usually give a check-in window rather than a single time, and the ship stops boarding well before it sails. We work backwards from the start of your window with the drive, the airport and a delay all allowed for. If your flight lands on the morning of departure with only a few hours in hand, we will tell you honestly that it is tight — a great many people fly in the day before for exactly that reason, and that is a different, easier journey.
Rather than the coach or a train and a taxi
There is no direct train from Heathrow to Southampton, so public transport means a coach to the city and then a taxi to the right terminal, or the Underground and a train out of Waterloo. With cruise luggage, on the one day of your holiday that has a hard deadline, that is a lot of moving parts. A private transfer is one vehicle from the arrivals hall to the gangway.

Should I fly in on the day I sail?
Most cruise lines advise against it, and so would we. If you do, the later the ship sails and the earlier you land, the better. Send us both times and we will give you an honest view rather than simply taking the booking.
Which Southampton cruise terminal will you take us to?
Whichever one your ship is on — Ocean, Mayflower, QEII, City or Horizon. Give us the ship name when you book and we will confirm the terminal before the day.
What if our flight is delayed?
Give us the flight number so we can follow the arrival and adjust. If the delay is serious enough to threaten your boarding time, we will tell you as soon as we can see it rather than at the dock gates.
Can you collect from a Heathrow hotel instead?
Yes. Plenty of people fly in the night before and stay near the airport. Enter the hotel as your pickup address and it becomes a simpler and slightly cheaper journey.
